Three more books in Unbound series!

From Publisher’s Marketplace…

FICTION: WOMEN’S/ROMANCE
Lori Devoti’s next three books, continuing her “Unbound” series of
witches,
hellhounds, and Norse mythology, to Tara Gavin at Silhouette Nocturne,
by Holly
Root at Waxman Literary Agency (World).

Not much detail to give now. The first will be a follow up to Guardian’s Keep. The next two I think will be hellhounds…

Changing gears–switching from one writing project to another…

Amazon Ink, urban fantasy, tattoo heart

Wednesdays are one of my long writing days. Meaning I don’t go to the gym. It’s a day I really like to crank out some pages, but today was also my first day going back to my urban fantasy, Amazon Ink.

It has been months since I worked on this story. I started by going through my editor’s suggestions for the first chapter. That was easy enough. Now I’m rereading everything to get back into the world. It’s fun. I love this world. I love my characters.

But as always when I have stepped away from something for a bit, there’s fear. Fear that I won’t be able to do it this time–that those other pages were somehow written by magic, that I wasn’t really involved or that it will feel that way when I start back on it.

I face this every time and I’m pretty sure other writers do too. And every time, I’m amazed that it wasn’t magic, that I am able to pick the story back up and keep going with it.

Hopefully, this time will be no different.

I’ll find out tomorrow. I’m giving myself today to get my head back in the game/story…

Announcements….

First word is out. Amazon Ink, my story of a modern day Amazon family that lives in Madison Wisconsin and runs a tattoo shop, is going to be released by Juno Books (check them out–do they have the best covers or what?). I like this book–I really do. It’s kind of special to me. It’s urban fantasy with a touch of women’s fiction, but still lots of action. (Or at least I plan it that way. I haven’t actually finished it yet.) And I love the tattoo part. For whatever reason I love tattoos (the history of them, etc.) even though I personally don’t have any.

More to come on Amazon Ink later.

Second, I’ve joined a new group blog. I know ANOTHER one. I need counseling. This one though is just for shape-shifter romance. How great is that? The actual blog hasn’t started yet, but here is the link. There is also going to be an announcement-only Yahoo group–to let people know when something big and exciting is happening on the blog. Since it is announcement only, it will be pretty low mail.

That’s it for now. My vampire novella is done, but not due for a few weeks so I’m shipping it off to a friend who will hopefully not find too many issues with it. And today I’m starting on my Nocturne Bite. Venge’s mom…did you know she was really alive?

New York, New York

Today I’m going to NY–or more accurately am in New York. I’m posting this ahead of time because I decided not to bring my laptop. I always bring it and while it is great to have on the plane for writing, I don’t wind up checking email because Internet service at fancier hotels is getting more and more expensive. If someone needs me they have my cell number!

I’ve never been to NY. I have been to Mexico City which is actually bigger, but I don’t think the part of Mexico City I frequented has much in common with NY. (I went to school there one summer.) The reason for this trip is, of course, a conference. I’ve never been to this conference either–but it looks like it will be a good one and I’m looking forward to “putting a face” on Ninc. I joined about a year ago and while it was started by members of RWA and had a lot of romance authors in it, the personality is different and there are authors of other genres in the mix. I love that. I think spending too much time in romanceland can be…well, not good. It’s like spending too much time in your house–you need to get out and remind yourself there is another world out there and what seems SO important in one world isn’t at all in another.

So, that’s where I am. My travel buddy on the way out is Barbara Vey and my roomie is Sally MacKenzie. I’ll try and post a bit about the conference when I get back.

Have a great weekend!

Half way done…

I am officially at the half way point in my vampire novella which is due May 1. It’s scheduled for release in December as half of Nocturne’s Holiday with a Vampire anthology. The other author is Merline Lovelace. I’ve done a couple of proposals with vampires before, but they never made it to the “present to editors” stage. Not because I didn’t like them, just because things changed while I was working on them and I didn’t feel their time was right. I have one I particularly like though set partially in current time and partially in the late 1700’s, kind of a dual timeline thing. At some point I may go back to that one because it still calls to me.

But back to this vampire. :) His name is Drystan and hers is Aimee. I’m calling it my “heartwarming tale of the undead.” Okay, that is kind of a joke, but it is heartwarming–not a single throw someone up against the wall scene yet. Although I may have to add at least one…maybe in the church….

Sorry, left you there for a second. So, I’m at the halfway point, and here is my dilemma. I’ve been taking it easy with this one, writing just a couple pages a day on it and spending my other writing time working on a new idea I have (paranormal, but not like my Nocturnes–kind of a paranormal romantic thriller). But at the halfway point I’m thinking it may be time to knuckle down and push through to the end. Spring break is coming up, as is the Ninc Conference. It would be great to have my rough done before I headed out at least on the latter.

But I hate to leave that other idea completely either…It’s so hard.

For other writers out there, are you one idea workers? Meaning you work on one thing solely until it is done? Or do you bounce between things? Work on mutliple projects in the same day, week, what?

Pictures…help me choose…

I don’t want to be one of those authors who has been using the same picture since her high school prom, so when they offered a good price at portraits at the Love is Murder Conference, I slapped on my battle makeup and plopped down on the stool.

Which do you like? (you can’t say none…)

Click on them to see a bigger version. I think I like #8 best…Once I pick one they will retouch it (one only) as part of the price I paid. So, look at those crow’s feet now, baby.

Crazy Day…

Another crazy day ahead of me. January was a blur of crazy days and the non-stop snow didn’t make them any more sane.

Today I have spin class–which I am going to because I had to skip the last two weeks. Then I’m meeting some writer-types for lunch, then I have a book signing at Waldenbooks at West Towne Mall in Madison, Wisconsin. Kathryn Albright and Kathy Steffen will be signing with me.

Then you get into the normal life stuff–like the library and Target. The fun never ends–especially since at that point I will be dragging two horse anchors (excuse me, children) along behind me.

Remember when you were seven and Saturdays basically meant getting up, eating a donut and watching Scooby Doo? Those were the days. Now I run in fear if someone shows me a donut. (Do you know how long I’d have to spin to burn that thing off?)

On other fronts, I have news. Harlequin is starting a fun new program called Nocturne Bites. They are 10 to 15,000 word short stories that will be available as downloads only from eHarlequin. If you are familiar with Spice Briefs it’s the same idea. I’m not sure what the price will be. Spice Briefs are under $3. Anyway, I’ve been asked to write one–so I’m looking for ideas of a character people would like to know more about. I’m thinking a hellhound. Thoughts? It’s going to be a short, sexy read with some action because I gotta have that action.

I’ve also been asked to participate in another project for Nocturne, but I’m not going to say too much about it just yet. I will say it is something outside of my Unbound world. I just started on it, but I think it is going to be fun to write. Always good to try something a little different now and again…
