Must haves and dos for National…or any conference…

I’m going to do this list format and add to it as random (but very important) thoughts occur to me.
First…

    Must Haves

  • wine.jpgLittle Black Dress wine minis. Have you seen anything cuter and more appropriate for the frugal romance author? I didn’t think so. OH! And they are plastic–so light and easy to pack.
  • An evening bag. My first year I didn’t think to bring one. What a pain. No one wears their name badge to the Ritas or other parties–and you so can’t carry whatever lovely tote we get. (I do love the totes, but with a cocktail dress? Not so much.) So, get thee an evening bag!
    Must Dos

  • Pedicure!! Check those piggies! Nobody needs to be seeing those winterwarn feet.
  • Try on everything. I did this tonight. I discovered my Victoria Secret Angel “whatever” gave me some unexpected “enhancement” in my Rita dress…better to know these things upfront (no pun intended).

Hellhound Lover Buttons…

You KNOW you want one…Hellhound Lover Button Well, here’s the deal–I am taking around 30 of them with me to National. Anyone who really does want one needs to find me somewhere and ask for one. I will gladly hand one over if I still have any left. (There are a few already spoken for.)

Easiest place to find me? The Lit signing on Wednesday night! No purchase needed. But you do need to promise to wear the button…at least for a while.

Picture them…editors and agents.

Ever wonder what the editor or agent you were chatting with via email looks like? Conference season is upon us. It’s a good time to know who is standing behind you in line, maybe with a fork out to spear the same chocolate-covered strawberry you’ve been eyeing. BEFORE you shove those tines into that well-manicured hand, maybe you should check the name tag–or better brush up on what people look like before you even get in line.

For your viewing pleasure…here’s a link to a page with a ton of photos.

And no, seeing all those young faces doesn’t make me feel old…really…

More on book promotion…

A few days ago I blogged about book promotion and my basic belief that the success or failure of a book has very little to do with running ads or blogging yourself to death. Today I came across an article at M.J. Rose’s blog by Simon Liskar, a literary agent. He seems to agree. Check it out. It’s worth a read.
