RITA and GH Day…

If you want to watch the finalist roll in–stop by Melinda Beth Skinner’s site. She keeps a list updated every ten minutes.

Oh, and I blogged today at 2BRead on the RITAs and why they don’t get the prestige of the other genre’s big contests. Stop by and tell me if you think I’m all wet. ;)

Rat poison in the pet food?

Okay this is just scary. Am I the only person who thinks this is another major sign our food supply in this country isn’t as safe as it should be?

Bad enough we have to worry about ecoli and mad cow disease–but rat poison?

Time to start that container garden, chickies…

Why “best-seller” and online numbers mean nothing…

The Wall Street Journal has an interesting article today on people paying over $10,000 just to get their book to the top number slot for an online bookseller–for a day or less.

First question that comes to mind–Are these people insane? Second thought? How pathetic.

Here’s a blurb…

This all adds up to numbers that are ubiquitous, closely watched — and of dubious value. The targeted marketing campaigns contribute volatility to sales-ranking numbers that are inherently unstable. Outside the top 1% or so of books, few sell multiple copies a day, so little separates books with rankings tens of thousands, or even hundreds of thousands, apart. Morris Rosenthal, an author and publisher based in Springfield, Mass., who has studied the Amazon charts, says a day without a sale can send a book ranked 10,000 to as low as 50,000.

So, two lessons here–1.) when someone says they’re a “best-seller” ask where and by whose count before touting their greatness and 2.) authors, seriously, these numbers just don’t matter.

Sanjaya still in it…

SanjayaI have to say I thought he did a good job Tuesday night, and I am really starting to feel sorry for all the negative attention he’s getting. Like this for example. A hunger strike? And I saw a guy walking around wearing an anti-Sanjaya T shirt.

That just has to hurt. And he’s (Sanjaya, I mean) cute, right?

DONE!!!

That’s right I am done with my second Nocturne. I know the little bar on the side says 98%, but I always write kind of short and fluff up in revisions.
Happy, happy days. I’ll take a day off then print, read, revise.
But Yay!! Oh, and it wasn’t due until July. Another Yay!!

Doggie cocaine…

Am I the only one who has ever wondered this…What is REALLY in dog cookies? I mean seriously, my dog would do back flips for what looks suspiciously like a bone-shaped dry hunk of clay.
Yesterday, I offered him Ritz Bitz–the cheese kind. He took them content, UNTIL I reached my hand into the cookie jar. SPLAT–he spit the Ritz Bit onto the floor. I pointed at it in the universal “eat this first” signal. He smacked it with his foot, shooting it across the floor. Clearly saying ARE YOU MAD???? YOU HAVE A COOKIE IN YOUR HAND.
I so don’t get it.

You Are Very Skeptical

Your personal motto is: “Prove it.”
While some ideas, like life after death, may seem nice…
You aren’t going to believe them simply because it feels good.
You let science and facts be your guide… Even if it means you don’t share the beliefs of those around you.
How Skeptical Are You?
