I hear you calling my name…
Recognize the tune, or am I revealing that I spent way too much time listening to my parent’s records growing up?
Anyway, I just finished Blue Moon by Lori Handeland. Now normally, I don’t pimp books here, but this one was really good, and certainly worth your time to pick up.
I bought this book mainly because Lori is also a member of WisRWA and the book is set in Wisconsin. I did not buy it because it is about werewolves. In fact that was a mark against it in my book. I’ve read a few werewolf romances that were WAY to close to doggie love for me, but Blue Moon was different.
First, it almost wasn’t a romance. If it wasn’t marketed as a romance, and hadn’t won the Rita, I’d call it more of mystery. Sure there is romance in there–and plenty o’ sex, but for me the mystery element was much more the driving force of the story.
Second (and this was important to me) no doggie sex. ;-)
And finally, it was just really well written. I did know who the bad guy was –but I don’t think it was obvious to everyone. I have probably just spent too much time living with dogs/wolf cousins. And that is one thing I really liked–she told us who the bad guy was, but it was couched in wolf speak. Loved that.
So, if you want to try something new. Buy Blue Moon. Now, I’m going to add the second book in the series to my wish list–in case, you were wondering what to get me for Christmas. ;-)
